New N900 firmware update now available
A new software update is now available for the Nokia N900. The update adds Ovi Suite support and makes it easier to access and sync files and messages between your device and your desktop. In addition, hundreds of tweaks and fixes have been included that will make your N900 run faster and smoother. You'll know that the software update is ready to install when you see a white exclamation mark in a yellow box appear on your device's screen. Just touch on that icon and follow the instructions. If you get a "Not enough memory" error when attempting to update the firmware, temporarily disable some repositories (like e.g. Extras-Testing or Devel) or uninstall some unoptified applications and try again.

More information can be found in this thread on our Maemo discussion forum.

MeeGo 1.1 coming on October 27, PR1.3 for the N900 approaching
MeeGo 1.1 will be released on October 27, see MeeGo Wiki. Excerpt:

MeeGo 1.1 is almost there and final release is targeting to Oct 27. MeeGo 1.2 planning is also well under way. The next phase is to form a detailed release plan out of the 1.2 Features these, targeting to a final release in April 2011.

On the Maemo side, there have been interesting, supporting developments going on, as well, according to Harri Hakulinen's blog post. The PR 1.3 update is quite close now, and with that you can easily dual boot between Maemo and Meego on your N900. There is also a possibility of developing applications supporting both operating systems, based on Qt and Qt Mobility APIs on the Maemo side. It means that you can develop once in PC with Qt Creator, and test your applications on both Maemo and MeeGo, directly on your N900 device.
