[New] CloudGPS - smooth tile mapping application for N900
CloudGPS by Damian Waradzyn is a simple yet the smoothest (using OpenGL ES) tile mapping application for the N900. Now with partial 3D and accelerometer support. It allows exploring "OpenStreetMap I" map (it shares tiles with Maep and possibly others) but future versions will allow other map sources. It can show / follow your current location. Planned features include searching and routing using CloudeMade services, portrait mode and more. This project aims to provide great user experience - without lags or delays.

MeeGo has been chosen by Genivi for its infotainment car system
Genivi-Alliance decided to use MeeGo as a base platform for an open-source infotainment systems for cars (In-Vehicle Infotainment IVI). The next reference release will be based on MeeGo.

Members of the Genivi-Alliance are (among others): BMW, General Motors, Hyundai, Peugeot/Citroën, Renault, Intel, ARM, Nokia, Wind River, Magneti-Marelli and Continental.

MeeGo will provide the base for the upcoming GENIVI Apollo release. In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) is a rapidly growing and evolving field that encompasses all the digital applications that can be used by all travellers in a car. Navigation, entertainment, location-based services, and connectivity to devices, car networks and broadband networks are all covered off by IVI.

[Upd] SPB TV beta 1.0.7
SPB TV (IP-TV solution) has been updated to 1.0.7 version, providing the following changes:

* On-screen sound volume control
* Video is paused while the app is going to background
* The app is now optified
* Some bug fixes.

[New] BackupMenu - backup/restore tool creating Flasher compatible images
BackupMenu from Rob Simpson is a bootloader-based OS image backup tool. It can backup images from the N900's OS and programs to the SD card or eMMC (MyDocs). BackupMenu uses RootFS images that are compatible with Nokia's Flasher utility for easy restoration from a non-operating (i.e. bricked) state.

[New] N9Profile - powerful N900 profile manager
N9Profile by Jakub Splichal is a powerful profile manager for the N900. It can create new profiles, quickly change profiles, change/activate profiles based on events in Calendars, location ID from mobile network, manage profiles based on WiFi network name, enable timed profiles (e.g. silent profile for 4 hours) and profiles for incoming calls (N900 will ring or not based on number).

[New] LowLight - take blur- and noise-free images in low light
LowLight is a camera application for capturing photographs in low ambient light on N900. Camera captures two images of the scene, one short exposed (noisy) and one long exposed (blurry). The two images are than fused in order to preserve the sharpness of the short exposed and the colours and noise free characteristics of the long exposed image. The application allows the user to manually set the desired brightness of the final image by setting a slider.

[New] HDRcapture - take HDR photos on your N900
HDRcapture is a Nokia application based on FCam for creating extended dynamic range images on the N900. The camera automatically meters the scene and captures three images: one that correctly exposes the highlights, the other that exposes the shadows, and the third that exposes the midtones. The images are then combined together into a single image. The result is a single low dynamic range (8-bit) image but in which all areas are well exposed. The app also allows for saving of the original captured images for later offline mergning if desired (i.e. in Photoshop).

[New] FCamera - RAW, HDR and full manual controls on the N900
FCamera by David Jacobs is a camera application for the N900. You can use it as an alternative to the built-in one. It provides significantly more manual control over capture parameters, and shoots RAW (in the Adobe DNG format). It also includes some nifty features. It has an automatic HDR mode, which has an HDR viewfinder that lets you preview the full range to be captured, and a "lucky imaging" mode in which it takes a burst of shots and only saves the sharpest. Seems not to work at the moment with Titan's kernel.

At the moment it only supports basic radio features: tuning user's radio, playing a song, skipping a song and displaying song information, but other basic Last.fm features like scrobbling, marking a song as loved or banned, etc. are planned for the stable release.

[Upd] Opera Mobile 10.1 for Maemo 5
Opera Software has released the first beta version of Opera Mobile 10.1 for Maemo. Changelog for this build includes:

* Geolocation support.
* Javascript JIT support.
* Fix garbage display after rotation due to incorrect stride.
* Fix monospaced font in UI elements.
* Fix display of Asian fonts in UI elements.
* More efficient socket handling, decreases CPU usage slightly.
* Suspend JavaScript, animations etc. when screen saver activates.
* Reduced tearing while panning.
* Fix proxy server mixup.
* Fix crash when reading proxy settings.
* Upgraded Opera Core, including many bugfixes
* Many bugfixes to the UI.

Known issues:

* Higher memory usage, especially on JavaScript intensive sites.
* Due to timing issues with different geolocation information providers (WiFi, cell towers, GPS) first request may have poor precision.
* Fast scrolling not optimized for page rendering.
* Adobe Flash and other plugins are not supported.
* Screen tearing may be visible when panning, especially in portrait mode.
* The Maemo on-screen keyboard is not supported. Use the physical keyboard or the on screen keyboard included with Opera Mobile.

[New] 1up - simple counting application for the N900
1up from Anto@AntoArts is a simple counting application. The UI contains just a button with a number. Clicking that button increases that number by one (counts up). It can be useful for counting something, like e.g. people entering a meeting. The application also lets you reset the counter, set any initial value, subtract by one (e.g. to correct a mistake), save the result or copy it to clipboard.

FrontView from Ben Lau turns your N900 into a portable document scanner. Use the built-in camera to take snapshots of handwritten notes, typed documents, business cards, etc. FrontView converts them to a flat document image by de-skewing it automatically.

Buddy by Rama Kurvakat has been available for quite a while but it somehow didn't make it to our Maemo Software Catalog until now. It is a budget/expense manager for Maemo allowing you to record your budgets and expenses in any period in time and helps you analyze your expenditure and budgeting trend with a number of visual graphs. It also allows for archiving of data and for reading/generating CSV format files containing your expense/budget records. Data is protected with encryption.
