| This month, Nokia and Intel have established a new, collaboratively owned and run laboratory at the Centre for Internet Excellence at the University of Oulu. The initial focus of the lab will be graphics: making new, next-generation graphical experiences for mobile users. There's already a strong 3D internet research community established at the Centre, and the partners hope to tap into that excellence to help inspire their own projects. The Centre produced realXtend, an open source platform for interconnected 3D worlds, for example. Sygic Mobile Maps 10 now available |

Sygic has released an upgrade of their Mobile Maps to version 10. The update has just been released to the Ovi Store and will be available for free to all users of version 9 once the Ovi Store approves it. The N900 will also automatically notify you about the availability of the update.
Version 10 provides the following improvements:
* Updated look and feel
* Online sharing of speed traps or road incident locations also if maps are stored on the device
* Also Real-time traffic information (within few weeks)
* Navigation to addresses stored in phone's Contacts
* Scrolling through menus, lists and map zooming supports touchscreen gestures so that no buttons are needed when using Mobile Maps
* Recent state or country is stored automatically. Just tap Back button on the keyboard to display the list of all available countries.

dannycamps has written a very detailed review of one of new arrivals to the Maemo platform, 
The first release of MeeGo for IVI (In-Vehicle Infotainment) has just been made available. The release includes a sample IVI Home Screen and taskbar, using the included Qt framework, and designed with Automotive Center Console HMI requirements in mind. It also incorporates some automotive specific middleware components and a few sample applications, including sample navigation program (Navit) and a sample dialer application (BT-HFP Dialer) which uses Bluetooth and a paired phone.
