See how skinnable the Maemo 5 / N900 UI is.... |
|
Many people complain about the Nokia N900 UI being too grey or too black'n'white... I always reply that it's just the default theme and the UI is fully skinnable so one can change it almost completely. But so far having no time to make my own theme I could not demonstrate this. However, Theme Maker's author Urho Konttori has recently created a sample theme and now it can be used to show how skinnable the N900 is. You may like this theme or not, it's obviously a matter of personal taste and preferences, but it's simply an example of what can be done, or actually just a part of it as this theme does not change icons or some buttons which can be changed as well... It proves that the N900 can be skinned into actually almost everything else. Even iPhone fans will be able to make the N900 look like the iPhone :-) OK, enough talking, simply take a look at the screenshots on our Maemo discussion forum. And...get the Theme Maker and start creating great themes!

Urho Konttori has released a new version of Theme Maker - 1.2.5. Braek, Web Texter, HideUserAgent, Witter and Camkeyd |

* Witter is a simple Twitter client with timeline and mentions/direct messages/public timeline/trends/search.
* HideUserAgent lets you modify the UserAgent string of the built-in web browser, which may be useful if e.g. your favoirite website stubbornly redirects you to a mobile version while you want to browse the normal one
* WebTexter is an application to send texts to Irish mobile and VoIP operators' subscribers
* Braek is a funny little application that.... emulates the broken screen :-)

Our Maemo software catalog - nearly 270 applications |
|
As mentioned below, one of the most important parts of this website which we intend to update daily is our Maemo Software Catalog. At the moment, it contains nearly 270 applications for Maemo 5 / Nokia N900, including virtually all end-user packages from the Extras, Extras-Testing and Extras-Devel repositories, as well as from several other repositories. It's probably the only place at the moment that lists all these packages in one place, with descriptions and screenshots. Even if you don't indend to use software from Testing or Devel, our Catalog can give you an impression of what is available there and what may reach the Extras repository very soon. We will be also listing applications from other, independent repositories (e.g. developer's own ones) as well as software that was written for previous Maemo platform releases, yet compatible and working properly on the N900.
If you have any suggestions, comments or opinions to share with us regarding the Software catalog, or if you would like to let us know about Maemo 5 software that is not yet listed, please contact us using our Contact form or simply by posting a message on our Discussion forums.

My-Maemo.com (beta) launched! |
|
After several weeks of preparations, we're now ready to launch My-Maemo.com!
Yet another, new Maemo site? Well, not really new, and not really just 'yet another'. It's based on my 10 year experience with running My-Symbian.com, the oldest Symbian OS community site in the Internet. And it's going to be different than other existing sites, and unique, with its own flavor.
We're not starting with just empty pages. Right now, the site offers you the following content:
* our own Maemo Software Catalog with over 270 applications listed, with screenshots and short descriptions. For now, it's probably the biggest online catalog of Maemo 5 software.
* our own Maemo Downloads where we will be sharing applications which are not currently available in other Fremantle repositories. In the beginning, they will be mainly applications written for previous Maemo releases and devices, not yet ported to Maemo 5, but tested by us and found to be running just fine
* our own Software repository which will contain the same files as in Downloads, just easier to install and maintain via your phone's App Manager
* F.A.Q pages containing answers to the most frequently asked Maemo related questions
* Useful Tips & Tricks letting you use your device easier and quicker
* Our Nokia N900 preview - please read it if you haven't yet as it is a good base for our full review coming next week
* Our Maemo Discussion Forums - even now, at site launch, with almost 2500 posts and almost 70 threads.
We're launching the site with this old (yeah, we know, quite dated) design not to further delay it, but we consider it just a "beta" phase, so stay tuned for a brand new look and much more features coming soon!
