How to remove *ALL* data from the N900?

Firmware update only reflashes the rootfs. It does NOT reflash partitions located on the 32 GB eMMC memory, and that's where user data like e.g. images or videos are stored.

If one wants to make sure that *ALL* data are removed from the device (e.g. when selling the phone or giving it to someone else) the best way to do it is to reflash the device using the command line based Flasher-3.5:

For the Flasher, you can download firmware files from here:

http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php

and there are both the actual firmware and the eMMC disk image files available, so you can reflash both of them and thus wipe ALL data.
